Seniors Taking to the Seas and Loving Every Cruising Minute - It's a Great Time to Take A Vacation

In interviewing a group of seniors from South Florida, California, and Phoenix, AZ., I learned that they rave about taking cruises because they know that once on board they have organized fun, food, entertainment, and other people to socialize with. The possibilities with cruises for variety of ports to leave from and ports to visit, length of the cruise, and pricing seem endless.

Jules Glastein, a former Independent Cruise Consultant, decided to retire at the age of 92 from helping people plan their cruises vacations. He offered a wealth of information about cruising and he explained that the best way to know if you love cruising is to take a cruise and get started.

I asked if it was best to start by taking a 3 or 4 day cruise to determine if cruising was right for you. Jules made it clear that cruisers usually don't take too much luggage with them and once they get settled on the ship and start having a good time, 3 or 4 days disappears and then it's time to go home. He also let us know that if all you have available is 3 or 4 days, by all means, don't stay home, take the cruise.

His first recommendation would be a 7 day cruise to experience a more complete vacation. Let's face it, there's stress in getting ready to go away, packing, getting to the port, waiting to get onboard, finding your cabin, settling in to your vacation, and learning your way around the ship. Once your comfortable, you don't want to go home.

In fact, chances are that while you're on board, you'll probably want to book your next trip. Many of the decisions you'll make about the type of cruise you want to take will be about where you want to depart from and what ports of call you'll be visiting on the trip. You also might want to consider the type of weather and experiences you want for your vacation. For example, you're not taking the Alaska Cruise if you want to defrost from living in a cold climate.

There are many tropical destinations to discover and it's a tough choice between the Eastern and Western Caribbean. If you've got the time and the money to spend, opt for a longer cruise crossing the Panama Canal, or aybe 14 days around Europe. For a leisurely cruise and warm temperatures a cruise around all the Hawaiian Islands is delightful.

You will also decide about the cabin you want for the vacation and you can go from bargains to absolute luxury.

I learned from the travellers that planning a cruise gives them something to look forward to and it's really made their lives better. This group of retirees told me they are happier and they enjoy being around new people, having new experiences, and they're taking more cruises next year.

One word of advice from Jules was not to be fooled by prices seem too low when advertised. Be sure to understand the price of the cruise, plus the cost of taxes and port charges, plus how much you'd have to pay for insurance if you can't make it to the cruise or something happens.

Spring Break 2009 - Cheap Spring Break Packages

By Licoln Davis

Getting a cheap trip for spring break 2009 can often be linked to how early you reserve the package. These types of trips are promotion and incentive based unlike summer travel. This means good news for the college student since they can save alot of money by booking early. Booking early for spring break typically refers to six months prior. Only New Years has a larger pre-book window. You will notice that some agencies offer free summer trips and other incentives to those students that book prior to a certain date for spring break. Do not wait until the law of supply and demand kicks in. If you do, you will probably only receive the package you booked, and not all the perks and additional trips given to those that booked early.

Another way to secure a cheap spring break trip is to book in large numbers. If you organize a group of twelve or more, you will often receive a group discount. This discount would only apply to the group leader, but that person can usually divide it with the entire group. This allows everyone to receive a discount on their purchase price. Once again, group discounts only apply when you book spring break trips early. Their is no reason to offer group discounts in December, January, and beyond because most agencies are booking hundreds of students during this time period.

Next, consider an all inclusive spring break package. They may seem more expensive at first, but they typically save everyone alot of money in the long run, especially when it comes to bar tabs. You will save money on the extra things when it comes to an all inclusive trip. Alcoholic drinks, food, banana boat rides, scuba and snorkel rentals, parasailing, and parties(just to name a few) can all be included in the price of the vacation. If you are going to do these things, it's often better to choose this type of vacation package.

Last, don't be persuaded to buy travel insurance and other additional features that can inflate the per person price for everyone in your group. Most agencies have their own security features in place to offset a problem. Additional insurance is typically not needed since most agencies will refund all or part of your initial payment if you cancel the package prior to a certain date. If the flight or cruise is cancelled then you would obviously get your money back as well.

Spring break 2009 does not need to be a drain on your bank account. Do your research and find cheap spring break vacations that suit your budget and the budget of your friends. Try to book spring break trips in October for the following year. This is typically the time when most agencies start their promotions. This will ensure you get a room at the most popular hotels. It will also ensure you take advantage of all the perks and promotions available.

Tips For Your First Cruise Vacation

By Carrie Finley-Bajak

So you have decided it is time to try a cruise vacation.

Whether you're an introvert, extrovert, adrenaline seeker or laid-back observer, the vacations you take are usually closely aligned with your personality. When it comes to cruise vacations, sometimes determining what kind of cruise ship is best for you can be confusing. At one end of the spectrum are the sleek mega-liners, at the other, the small vessels, but which will best match your personality? If you like the festivity of being among plenty of people and fast-paced entertainment, you'll find it aboard one of the 12-15 story mega-liner behemoths.

Multiple pool areas, kid and teen venues, energizing activities from surf-simulators to nightclubs, and expansive dining options, are all designed to keep two to three thousand passengers buzzing well into the evening. Group activities cover a wide spectrum of interests, including culinary and athletic classes, games, to pool-side activities. Attire is usually relaxed, and depending on cruise line, evening wear stretches from casual to formal. Due to their size, some ports are inaccessible to mega-liners which require them to either anchor off-shore, or entirely bypass them altogether. This is where the smaller ships have an advantage.

Catering to roughly 100 to 500 passengers, smaller ships can glide into more quaint and unique ports around the world resulting in experiences not attainable by those aboard the big ships. But the difference doesn't end there.

Smaller ships usually offer enhanced ambiance such as meals on fine china, entertainment by classical musicians and upgraded stateroom amenities. Notable guest speakers, frequently experts in culinary, cultural or nature-related subjects of the region, will leave you with a heightened appreciation for the cities you'll be visiting. Dress codes are often country-club casual by day, elegant by night. In contrast to larger ships offering an array of constant diversions, guests on small ships can still expect to enjoy a pool, spa and/or a health club facility amid boutiques for the discriminating shopper. Varieties of dining and social activities create a neighborhood-like atmosphere among crew and guests and are tailored for the refined and gracious traveler.

To add another figure into the equation, there are also mid-sized liners which are a variation between big and small, however attitude and service generally side with the smaller ship approach.

3 Little Known Secrets to Big Savings on Cruise Travel Deals

By CJ Anderson

Here are the facts about cruise travel deals:

  • The economy is tough.
  • Everyone is under extra stress.
  • We all could use a vacation.
  • The vacation budget has shrunk.
  • EVERYBODY likes a good deal.

Enter the universal quest to find great cruise travel deals. You've always heard about the luxury and indulgence of cruising, and now you are seriously considering how to make it happen. But if you can't find the real cruise travel deals, it won't be possible for you and your family. Relax, would-be cruise traveler, I have some valuable information to share with you about how to find those cruise travel deals!

Here are 3 insider secrets that your travel agent won't tell you and the cruise industry really doesn't want you to know:

Avoid Peak Season

Cruises ships fill up quickly during the most popular early spring and summer travel months and cruise lines have no reason to offer reduced fares. About 38% of cruise industry revenue is generated between January and March when folks in colder climates seek out warmer weather and mid-winter and early spring breaks allow for family vacations.

Instead, look for cruise travel deals when ships are not booked to capacity during the off-season. In addition, your airfare to the port of embarkation will also be 10-30% cheaper in the slow months due to the same supply and demand conditions.

Repositioning Cruise

Repositioning cruises are unusual itineraries that result from needing to move a ship from one home port to another. For example, from California to Hawaii, or from Florida to Alaska. These are cruise travel deals because they do not offer as many ports of call, and will run regardless of how many passengers get booked. However, if you love the cruise ship experience and don't need to visit many exotic ports, this can be a great way to get the pampering without the big-ticket price tag. A repositioning run can easily offer a cruise travel deal of 40-50% less than a regular cruise of the same duration.

Note of Caution: Repositioning cruises are not recommended for first-time cruisers. It's a lot of time on board if you are not certain that you will like that vacation style.

Skip the Flight

One simple method to really cut down the cost of your cruise travel deal is to look for embarkation ports that are within driving distance of where you live. Of course, most cruises that originate in the US sail from Florida or California, but there are many other sailings out there from cities like New Orleans, Houston, Seattle, San Francisco, Bayone (New Jersey), New York, Philadelphia, and Mobile. A drive-up port cruise can easily save your family $1,000 on airfare alone.

Cruise travel deals can easily be had with just a little bit of inside knowledge and some careful planning. Just remember you don't have to travel with the herd on a 7-day Caribbean Carnival Cruise out of Ft. Lauderdale over your kids' spring break. The real cruise travel deals are had by breaking out of the pack!

Cruising and What I Pack

By Cindy Rossiter

One of the questions I'm asked a lot about in my role as an Image Consultant is what to take on a cruise - usually by clients who have never cruised and know that I have.

My first cruise was years ago, so long ago that there were still two class ships, first and second class passengers - I went on holiday on P&O's Oriana (the old one) and I was ruined for life. As a second class passenger we were confined to the back of the ship and there were certain doors we could not go through - still I didn't care - I was young and I had a wonderful time. The next year I went back on the same ship and it had become one class and I could go all over the ship - I couldn't believe how big it was and how much I hadn't seen the year before.

Since then I've cruised again and again and have probably been on well over twenty cruises. I've tried the dress down sort but my preference is for the ships that have formal evenings. To my mind the dressing up is part of the holiday and I'm prepared to put some effort into it. A ship on a warm night at sea with total darkness and just the ocean all around with all the public rooms beautifully lit and furnished, piano music tinkling, champagne flowing and every one in formal dress (even the waiters change their jackets and the crew wear formal attire) is a sight to behold.

I tend to have five requirements if I'm packing to go on a Cruise when I know the weather will be warm. They are:

Daytime on the Ship - For this I prefer lightweight jersey separates, trousers, shorts, t-shirt tops, a light cardigan/jacket. Here you also need to add in swimwear and cover-ups, flip-flops etc. I prefer trainers, or loafers - something with a rubber sole so you don't slip on newly washed decks is ideal.

Daytime in Port - In port, it depends on the weather but if hot it needs to be lightweight - and of natural fibre, whilst some prefer shorts and t-shirts or sundresses, because I burn easily I prefer lightweight baggy crepe trousers and short-sleeved tops. It's also worth considering where you are going as churches abroad generally require that your legs and shoulders are covered. Sandals or comfy shoes essential.

Casual Evening - For these evenings a pair of trousers and a skirt in a neutral colour like navy or stone are ideal and a selections of nice tops and jewellery to dress them up slightly. If you are canny about what you wear and when it's useful to wear a top for the evening and then use it on one of your days in port.

Informal Evening - I see this as a chance to wear day or cocktail dresses (just below the knee) or an evening pair of trousers and dressy top. The chaps will be wearing lounge suits so it fits together quite well. Also if you have good jersey basics you can dress plain styles with costume jewellery and then use the same thing on days in port or casual evenings without the fancy accessories. (ex. A plain black scoop neck dress worn with black patent shoes/bag and silver costume jewellery on an informal evening can easily be worn with white or red on a casual night and sandals and a scarf on a day in port - I make my basics really work for their living).

Formal Evening - This is the time I get out my long dresses and give then an outing - the fellas are all in dinner suits and it's impossible to go over the top. Chiffon and sequins abound. If you are on a two-week cruise and there are four formal evenings it's easy to wear one dress and the beginning of the cruise and again at the end (I may change the look - say that I'd worn a magenta pink dress with silver jewellery/shoes and a sequin bag - I might switch to black accessories or pink ones the next time I wore it - I'd also carry a different shawl, I always take shawls as the air-con can be quite cool in some of the public rooms).

There are no weight restrictions if travelling from this country so it's how much you can reasonable manage to take which will fulfil your needs. If travelling on a cruise for the first time don't worry about the clothes, use my guide and you won't go far wrong. Enjoy!

Cruise Deals - 6 Tips For Finding a Good Deal on a Cruise

By Jamie Jefferson

Cruising is one of the best ways to spend your vacation, but it often comes at a steep price. Still, if you know a few secrets, you won't have to pay a whole lot to enjoy a trip to your favorite exotic locale. Use the following tips to get a great deal on the cruise you've been looking for.
There are several different ways that you can save when you are booking. Any one of these options will save you money on your overall cruise costs.

1. First, you can save money by booking your cruise several months in advance. Most cruise lines offer an "early bird discount." You can get these discounts by contacting a cruise line six to nine months before you plan on leaving. This can also help save your budget because you'll have several months to pay off the balance on your account. Instead of paying one lump sum for your cruise, you can make small installment payments.

2. You can also save money on a cruise by booking a last minute cruise. Cruise ships don't want to leave the harbor with empty rooms. They will give great bargains in order to get those rooms filled. The closer the departure date gets, the better the price. If you choose your date, start looking a few weeks before the trip. With this method, however, you'll be limited in your cabin choice. You'll have to take what you can get.

3. Another cheap booking method is to take a one-way cruise. These are offered when a cruise ship is changing port cities for the season. You can take the cruise ship to its new destination and then fly back home when you're done visiting there. Call your favorite cruise line and see if they offer any "repositioning cruises." They can last from a few days to a few weeks and have unique itineraries with lots of days at sea.

4. You can save even more money by traveling as a group. Group cruise packages are often less per person than the costs would be if you cruise alone or as a couple. If you can gather a group of eight to twelve people, you can sometimes get a free room. Split the costs among the entire group and you can all save.

5. There are off-season periods for all of the popular cruise destinations. Don't try to travel during the busy times of year. Early May to late September is off-season for Alaskan cruises. European cruises are cheapest before and after summer. Caribbean cruises have the best prices during the month of January. Do a bit of research on the popular times to travel and then plan your trip for an off-peak season.

6. Don't be afraid to consult with a travel agent. Although there is a bit of a belief that travel agents have more expensive rates, a qualified travel agent can find a good deal for you based on your budget. They can be especially helpful if you're going the group route. Instead of trying to organize the arrangements yourself, you can simply let a travel agent do it for you.

10 Thoughts On Picking a Cruise Ship Cabin

By Ken Weasley

The best advice is to be informed about cabins and pick the right cabin for you among the thousands available on a cruise
ship.

1. One of the most difficult parts of planning for a cruise is choosing the right cabin. Everyone has different tastes, and
what is not important to one person might well be important to you.

2. Look at the cruise ship layout and decks online or in brochures. Know that there are different types of cabins on
different cruise ships. The biggest differences between cruise lines--mainstream and luxury--ships are the quality of
accommodations.

3. Sometimes there are over 20 different categories on a ship! So it is important to know the different cabin categories. One
reason is that thanks to modern shipbuilding, most inside and outside staterooms are standard in size and amenities. Comparing
one vessel's cabins against another is daunting task, so keep your eye on the square footage as the most important criteria.

4. Know your budget and what you can afford. The price of a cruise ship cabin or stateroom (the terms are interchangeable)
is dependent on its size, layout, and location. The cabins on large cruise ships come in standard, ocean view, balcony, and
suite. A luxury line's smallest cabins are much larger than those on large cruise lines and are either ocean view or
balconied.

5. Know your lifestyle. Price is certainly a consideration, but if your vacation time is limited, you might be willing to
pay more to get a cabin better suited to your lifestyle. It's a personal decision, much like deciding where to cruise and which
ship to cruise on. How about an outside cabin with a window, or better yet a balcony? How about sitting on the balcony with a
good book or using it to catch a breathe of sea air?

6. The right cabin is a retreat house after a busy day ashore, or just to get away. A long cruise will have you wanting to
spend a relaxing time in your room, watching a TV-movie, or taking a nap.

7. Lots of people recommend the cheapest inside cabin, because you won't be spending much time in there anyway. This might be
true for short trips, but are you prepared for an inside cabin on the lowest level.

8. Know your location. Cabin, balcony size, and cabin location vary significantly within the same price range on any ship.

9. There's lot of cruise industry jargon you have to decipher.

10. Yes, there are the obvious questions you should ask: Will I located below the water line? Will I hear the roar of the ships
engines from my cabin? Will I have enough room to turn around in my cabin? Will it be the size of a walk-in closet, with no
windows, a tiny bath, and bunk beds? Will I not be able to tell if it's day or night without going up several decks?

Explore what the different types of cabins are, which locations are the most desirable, and which locations you should avoid if
possible. Pick the right accommodations and you'll have a wonderful time, and get hooked on cruising.

Discounted Cruises - Things You Should Know

By Deepak Dutta

What is the same thing did 11 million people worldwide do in 2004? They took a cruise. Of course, some extremely rich people did not take a cruise technically but they used their yachts and spent days in opulence in the midst of the ocean. But for people like you and me, we have to be content with a cruise package offered by various travel agencies. If you think cruising is for old people or your parents, than you are wrong, my friend.

Before you hurry up and buy your discounted cruise tickets advertised in the Internet or one of those travel magazines, you should be aware of the reality. Cruise prices are going up every year. Rooms are filling up very fast. So, bargains may not always be available. However, bargain prices can be found just before or after the holidays, or in shoulder seasons. Shoulder seasons vary from region to region, for example September for Alaskan cruises.

Get ready for some unexpected problems in a deep discounted cruise ship. But, hey, don’t forget that you also saved a bundle by purchasing a discounted trip. Engine problems are very common and some port of calls may be cancelled due to engine problems. If a port of call is cancelled you may have little recourse for a partial refund because your discounted ticket may have small prints that say that the cruise line can change their itinerates at their discretion.

Imagine thousands of people in close proximity in a cruise ship. What do you expect? Well, how about viruses? Yes, a cruise ship is an idle breeding ground for all those nasty viruses. Check the CDC (center for Disease Control) web site for worldwide virus outbreak. But that should not dampen your cruise going spirit. Just stay healthy, exercise, wash your hands frequently with disinfecting soap and you will be fine.

Don’t pay a premium for airfare purchased through the cruise lines even if they promise you that they will hold the ship if your flight is delayed. Shop for your own airfare and the connections you prefer. Most of the time you will be ahead of the game and you don’t have to fly red eye or use lousy connections.

If the cruise line is promising an all-inclusive fare, try to understand their language. They are saying, hey, we will cover your foods, non-alcoholic drinks, and entertainment. You are on your own if you want to get intoxicated. But that should be fine because there is not much opportunity to spend a fortune in a discounted cruise ship.

Don’t fall for the gourmet food hype. Realize that it is a buffet style food, plenty, good but definitely not gourmet. There may be alternative restaurants besides the buffet style food. Sometimes, you have to pay in those restaurants. So be prepared for that.

When the ship arrives at a port of call, either you can purchase their excursion tour or explore on your own. These excursion tours are money maker for cruise lines. If you want to purchase travel insurance, shop at insuremytrip.com and try to avoid the insurance offered by the cruise line. Don’t get upset, if you find beer and pretzels, instead of, champagne and caviar. Enjoy your cruise and be happy that you are not spending a fortune for your vacation.

With a little investigation up-front, your cruise vacation is as simple as booking... then enjoying! Once on board, your time is your own - no pressure to be here at this time and there at that time. Now that's a vacation!

4. Romance and cruise vacations!

For hundreds of years there has been a romantic mystique about the seas. What could be more romantic than sailing off into the sunset while sipping a glass of fine wine on your private balcony? Perhaps strolling arm in arm on an elegant formal night with your better half dressed to the nines. What about a honeymoon to some of the most romantic ports in the world? Perhaps a quiet secluded cove with white sandy beach. Enjoy each others' company at a quiet table in one of the intimate lounges. Or dance into the night under the stars. Take a while and lose yourselves while utilizing the spa services for two. Nothing could be more romantic than a cruise vacation!

3. Vacation cruises' pampering service!

For many people, nothing is more important for enjoyment while vacationing than service. If you receive good service, you are content. Be prepared to have your socks blown off! Most cruise lines train there staff in the fine art of customer service. Your room steward or stewardess will do their absolute utmost to ensure that your stateroom is kept just the way you like. From the bartenders to the wait staff to the activities staff, each cruise staff member's aim is to please. On our last cruise, our wine steward and the table staff in the dining room were absolutely wonderful. When you board your cruise ship be prepared to be pampered!

2. Cruise vacation dining!

Many people will tell you that this is the number one reason for taking a cruise. The fabulous menu options have your mouth watering. Then the presentation arrives and you are certainly not disappointed. The main dining rooms are places of elegance and formality. Most ships have alternate dining options as well - some with a small cover charge. There are usually casual dining options as well. Some ships have poolside grilles and some even have 24 hour pizzerias as mentioned earlier. Most offer 24 hour in-suite dining as well. And don't miss out on the midnight buffet! Special menus can - in most cases - be provided with advance notice. Pack a pair of stretchy pants or slacks - just in case !

10 Tips To A Discounted Cruise

By Craig Dah

With over 20 plus years as Travel/Tour Operators, we've
assembled the 10 tips that you can utilize right now to get your discount luxury cruise.

  • Organize your cruise for the "off-season". Stay away from the "peak season". If you can schedule your time even a few weeks before or after the peak season you'll save substantially. For example, the Alaska Cruise will have it's peak season during July and August. If you can sail before or after those dates you'll save.
  • Decide which cruise line you want to sail on. Some travel agencies tend to push a specific cruise line for various reasons, one reason is the agency receives a higher commission. Norwegian Cruise Lines, for the most part, will yield a better savings. Do a little homework and check out the amenities on each vessel to make sure it meets your expectations.
  • Don't be miss-led when you see advertised specials such as Discount Luxury Cruise", $599". These advertisements are usually for off-season and do not include port fees and taxes.
  • Get a cruise quote that includes port fees and taxes. If
the agency is unable to give that information to you then find another agency. Your interest should be the bottom line, the total cost with NO Hidden Fees. Port fees can run a couple hundred dollars per passenger, just be aware.
  • Unless you plan on spending a lot of time in your cabin, get
an inside cabin. An inside cabin, without a window, is by far the cheapest. The drawback to an inside cabin, you'll never know what time of day it is sense no "day light" comes into your room. Make sure to have a clock.
  • Cabin rates are typically based on a 2-person occupancy.
In other words, the first 2-people in the cabin will pay the full-fare, additional people will pay 1/2 the fare. If
you plan on having more than 2-people in a cabin, make sure you are NOT paying full fare for the extra 2-people. If so, find another agency.
  • Cruise insurance is often recommended by the agency when booking your cruise. Don't purchase cruise insurance from a travel agency, get it from an insurance company. You'll not only save money but you'll probably get a better policy too. We recommend the insurance because with the correct policy you are covered for trip cancellation either on your part or the cruise line, medical and luggage.
  • Cruising with a group does not always save you money on your cruise. If you are cruising with a group because you want to save money, think again, you may not be saving at all. The organizer of your group, if the group consists of 8-cabins, will usually
get the cruise for free. They are the true savers.
  • Check out your Sunday paper's travel section long before you cruise. It'll give you an idea of what the market is like.
  • We highly recommend Cruises Only. They are the world's largest cruise agency and many travel agencies use them, including the famous Best Fares. They offer the discount luxury cruise because they purchase "bulk" tickets directly from the
    cruise lines.

How to Get Reduced Price Cruises!

By Brian Schmidt Platinum Quality Author

Are you planning a cruise vacation and looking for a great price on your special cruise? There are a number of ways that cruise clients can get reduced price cruises. We will identify how to get reduced price cruises for your cruise vacation getaway.

First of all, we need to clarify the term “reduced price cruises”. Free upgrades can constitute “reduced prices” for your cruise. In some cases, this upgrade can amount to hundreds of dollars. On-board ship credits can be considered a reduction in your cruise cost as well. Periodically, the cruise lines offer special incentives to potential cruise buyers in the form of ship-board credits of $50.00, $100.00 or more! You will undoubtedly spend on board your cruise ship, so these credits can be considered a reduction in your cruise vacation cost.

The best way to take advantage of these “reduced price incentives” is to monitor a number of cruise merchants (in some cases weekly) for their current cruise deals on your chosen itinerary - that is, if you have the time. (One must keep in mind that cruises tend to sell out and waiting may cost you getting the stateroom of choice or missing the cruise altogether.) You can get special reduced price quotes by accessing our Discount Cruises home page and clicking on the merchant links there. Fill in the requested data and you will receive a quote for your chosen special cruise vacation. These quotes may already include price reductions and incentives.

Many cruise lines offer reduced price cruises for early booking. This ensures that the cruise will have a high acceptance at the “get-go”. They can then raise their prices back to an appropriate level.

If you are having a large get-together on your cruise, you can often get reduced price cruises by planning a “group rate” cruise. Sometimes this can mean that you may receive a discount in the amount of one whole cruise fare! Divide that up amongst your group and you have a wonderfully reduced price cruise!

As with every large ticket purchase, the words are “Buyer Beware”. Make sure that what you are expecting is what you are paying for. This applies equally to on-line purchases and “brick and mortar” merchant purchases as well. Ask the questions:

Are there any other taxes, fees, port fees etc?

    Are there any carrying charges?

Are my flight and transfers to the port included?

Am I receiving my choice of stateroom?

If you have pre-booked a shore excursion, is it included?

Once you have checked out the market for your special cruise vacation, picked your special stateroom and received a reduced price cruise package, book your cruise on-line from the merchants on our main A1 Discount Cruises page. Then all that’s left to do is to get excited!

Cruise Holiday Tips - Try to Limit Yourself to 6 Meals a Day on a Cruise Vacation

    By Robert Deveau

I suppose this piece will have been written with tongue only slightly in cheek, but I think that it is something worth considering. When my wife and I planned our next cruise, I had to promise to limit myself to only 6 meals a day. If you have cruised before then you know how much food is available on a cruise. If you have not cruised before, then you will be shocked to find how much food is available on a cruise.

It will be easy to find yourself eating for the entire trip, especially if you are sailing on one of those cruise lines where there is not as much to do, such as Holland America. If you are sailing on Carnival for example, the itinerary might keep you active enough that you will not think about eating as much.

On one of our more memorable cruises, on board the Holland America Line Zuiderdam, my constant refrain was, there is nothing going on right now, lets go to the Lido Deck. The Lido Deck, by the way, is where the buffet is.

So here is my plan for the next one, only six meals a day.

Meal number 1: First Breakfast. I like to rise early and watch the sun come up. Usually I awake early enough that there is no breakfast except for coffee and pastry.

Meal number 2: Second Breakfast. Breakfast in the dining room. Not many people are aware that the dining room is usually available for breakfast. This is the same efficient, friendly table service that you are accustomed to for dinner in the evening, the only difference is that now they are service eggs Benedict, and french toast.

Meal number 3: Third Breakfast. Omelet on the Lido deck. This will be the greatest omelet you have ever eaten, made to order and hot and fresh. Garnish it with homefries and bacon if you wish.

Meal number 4: Lunch on the Lido deck. Since you have had your three breakfasts you should be able now to hold off until lunch. I recommend loading up on the fruits and vegetables in anticipation of what is coming up for meal number 5.

Meal number 5: Either a hamburger and fries or Pizza but not both. Here is where the temptation really is. Carnival has the best pizza I have ever eaten, while princess has the best hamburger and fries. The problem is that it is too easy to be tempted to stop and have whatever you want whenever you want simply because it is there. My advice is to save yourself for meal number 6.

Meal number 6: Dinner in the Dining Room. If you have never cruised, then you do not know yet that dinner in the dinning room is like dining in a five star restaurant, except that you do not have to wait around for the bill. You definitely do not want to stuff yourself with hamburger and pizza when you have lobster and beef wellington waiting for you in the dining room.

Getting the Best Last Minute Cruise Deals Onboard a Cruise

By Ann Richter Platinum Quality Author

Last minute cruise deals are offered to the public because a cruise line wishes to fill its ships to the maximum capacity, therefore, justifying the cost of the cruise. These deals can be found during an off peak season when there will be undoubtedly less passengers wishing to travel and many companies will publish enticing offers to encourage more people to travel. Many of the cruise lines make a practice of offering last minute deals and are well worth looking out for as they not allow you to experience the vacation of a lifetime but can save you a great deal of money which is always welcome.

One particular advantage to last minute deals is that there is always the possibility of obtaining an upgrade to superior accommodation depending on the ship's occupancy, and best of all it doesn't cost any extra. The internal cabins on a ship are less expensive to a balconied suite because they do not have windows. If suites are available you may be able to book this type of accommodation for the same price as a less expensive cabin if you are taking up the offer of a last minute deal. The best way to take advantage of this type of deal is to simply ask if they are available.

A cruise ship will always leave port catered and fuelled to provide for 100 per cent occupancy. In the event that the ship is not filled to maximum capacity and sails with only 50 percent occupancy the cruise line will lose money because of the excess fuel and obviously much of the catering and perishables will need to be dispensed with, and will ultimately cost the cruise line unsustainable costs. It, therefore, makes sense for cruise lines to offer last minute deals if they find that they are in this situation.

By calling the cruise line directly you will be able to find out if they have any available last minute deals and always ask about the possibility of upgrades. If the cruise line is eager to achieve full occupancy on a particular cruise, they will be amenable to all kinds of deals including free excursions for example. If you are approaching the date when the cruise will be departing and the full occupancy hasn't yet been achieved by the cruise line, you will be in a great position and may end up with a fantastic deal.

Last minute deals with southern Caribbean cruise lines can create the perfect opportunity for you to finally take the family cruise vacation you have always dreamed of even when the economy is a little shaky.

It is Okay to Sail on the Cheap Cruise

    By Lisa Adan Mills

One of the most accepted traveler destinations these days can only be labeled as no place at all. People are queuing up at ports all over the planet to spend their holiday on a cruise vessel. The features of the vessel itself are, apparently, far more vital to the majority of tourists then the spaces the ship really docks. Depending on a lot of things these journeys can be quite costly, but they don't have to be. Play your cards correct and you can obtain on an actually cheap cruise and finish up with a bunch of holiday funds left over for other things.

The finest item regarding a journey vessel vacation is that you get something completely different. While lots of holidays turn into nothing but enjoying in a diverse country, cruise lines present something exclusive. Travelers get to be trapped in fun filled surroundings they will never want to leave. It is true. If you obtain on a ship that presents the activities you take pleasure in or would like to try, you finish up in a extremely social environment that presents you an option to lay back & relax or expend your day watching shows, playing games, & hanging out with active people.

For the new vacationer this all sounds costly. The pleased fact is that a normal cruise can price the same or less then equivalent time in a hotel. The healthier news is that a low-priced cruise is by no means an awful cruise. Really, offers of low-priced cruises are most often just superior prices on the exact similar trip everyone else spend a fortune on.

The initial thing you can do to obtain a cheap cruise holiday is worry less about where the ships go. If, for example, you like the layout, events, & activities presented by a certain cruises line & you are not picky about which Caribbean you select, then you can dig up with not planning ahead. A lot of like people who get low-priced airfare by buying very last minute tickets, you can obtain deals on a cruise the similar way. Like any other transport these cruises desire to be full. When the ships are scheduled to leave no matter what, then selling a low-priced ticket is superior then selling zero tickets. Further, the enjoyment of their visitors depends on a populated boat.

    By Yasin As’ari

Talking about the cruise vacations it means talking about the food prepared and served on board. Some people took a cruise vacation not only to have a good time and relaxed onboard the ship but also because of the food reason.

A lot of food prepared marvelously in various presentations and served them to you during the cruise. On cruise ship you may eat five times or even more a day. As the food and beverage department on board of the ships scheduled meal hours more than five times a day, besides regular breakfast, lunch and dinner they served tea time and midnight buffet as well, thus 24 hours Lido coffee and tea self service.

One cruise ship basically has more than three or four different kinds of restaurant and cuisine style. Formal Dinning Room as main restaurant, normally located on two decks, upper level and lower level, which can accommodate 600 pax per sitting, even 12 hundred pax per sitting on a bigger ship, like Royal Caribbean Freedom of the Sea. On every Holland America Ship you can find Lido Restaurant open for 24 hours. This self service restaurant prepares American food, Italian food, Chinese and other famous cuisines from all over the world. For the spices lovers you can try Indonesian, Thai or Pilipino food.

And also you can enjoy yourself sitting in a glamour bar or relax reading a book while enjoying your favorite drinks at sofa in beautiful lounge facing to the sea. Always there is some live music performance in lounge for you.

Normally during the cruise under control of one Chef Executive, some kitchen staffs would do some cooking demonstration and ice carving demonstration in front of the passenger by the Lido pool Deck.

The highlight of food presentation was going to be at Last Captain Dinner or Farewell Dinner with candlelight. All best quality and most favorite food served all together in main dining room at a night. The menu should be very tempting. They served Jumbo Shrimp Cocktail, Sevruga and Molossol Caviar, Escargots Bourguignon, Pate de Foie Gras, the famous Onion Soup and Caesar salad for the appetizers.
